NAVI’s in-game leader Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov reported that he tested positive for COVID shortly after landing in Katowice, Poland, indicating that he will be unable to play in the IEM Katowice 2022 from the official tournament area. The Natus Vincere captain, on the other hand, stated that he is in good health and would be able to compete in the group stage matches from a hotel room.

Boombl4 should be allowed to play in the arena games if Natus Vincere makes the playoffs. According to Poland’s existing regulations, positive COVID patients must be isolated for seven days, which might be enough time for Boombl4 to recover. If necessary, the CIS team will be able to field a substitute in the playoffs. The team’s substitute is presently listed as NAVI Junior’s Daniil “headtr1ck” Valitov, although another player might be recruited and utilized as an “emergency transfer.”

This is the latest COVID-related setback for the competition, which has already seen TYLOO withdraw owing to Chinese restrictions, Complexity unable to fly to Poland due to positive tests, and Robin “ropz” Kool and Aurimas “Bymas” Pipiras lose out due to the same reason. FaZe and MOUZ players were unable to compete in the competition with their teams, unlike Boombl4 and exit, due to positive tests received at the bootcamp before going to Katowice and settling into the official tournament hotel.

MOUZ player Aurimas “Bymas” Pipiras will be unable to help his squad at IEM Katowice 2022 due to the coronavirus he was diagnosed with two days before the tournament’s commencement, the organization announced on Twitter. During the event, Jon “JDC” de Castro from the academy team MOUZ NXT will replace the Lithuanian. The 21-year-old German has tested negative for coronavirus, like the rest of MOUZ, and will be allowed to join the squad in Katowice.

MOUZ had gone through a rebuild in the winter off-season, taking on veteran Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt and former academy AWPer dám “torzsi” Torzsás, and were eager to get off to a fast start in their first event of the year.

Bymas really deserved to play this tournament. The situation is unfortunate. The team has made tremendous progress daily, and this is a true bummer. JDC is a great stand-in though, so let’s go!

MOUZ coach Dennis “sycrone” Nielsen

MOUZ lineup for IEM Katowice 2022:

  • David “frozen” Čerňanský
  • Christopher “dexter” Nong
  • Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt
  • Ádám “torzsi” Torzsás
  • Jon “JDC” de Castro (Stand-In)
  • Dennis “sycrone” Nielsen (Coach)

MOUZ will start off at the prestigious tournament from the Play-In stage. On February 15, the European team will face off against GODSENT.

The Evo 2021 Showcase, the fighting games event expected to take place in Las Vegas, has been officially canceled due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak. The organizers said in a statement that the spread of the Delta variant made it difficult to organize a large event.

The EVO 2021 Showcase would have brought together the top ranked players competing in Evo 2021 Online and compete at the UFC APEX Sports Complex in Las Vegas on November 27 and 28. The EVO 2021 Showcase was to be an invite-only event. There would be a total of 40 players competing for a $125,000 prize pool spread across five games in total.

Unfortunately, fighting game fans will have to wait a little longer. But the good news is that EVO 2021 will return as the EVO 2022 Showcase between August 5th and 7th.

VCT Southeast Asia champion Bren Esports won’t be at the Masters Berlin. Making a statement on the subject, Riot Games cited the changing of COVID-19 restrictions as the reason.

Riot Games took special care of each organization’s travel permit so that there would be no trouble in the tournament. But changing COVID-19 circumstances have tightened travel permits around the world. As a result, Riot Games was unable to obtain the necessary travel permits for Southeast Asian champion Bren Esports.

Riot Games, has contacted the relevant government authorities of Germany and Philippines and stated that they have tried every way for a proper solution. But despite everything, there wasn’t any way to circumvent the restrictions, hence why they announced that Bren Esports was out of the tournament.

Still, Bren Esports will be considered to have competed in Berlin Masters. The Filipino team will be rewarded with 175 VCT points. In addition, the organization will get some sort of a prize.

Group D, which includes Bren Esports, will continue with 3 teams. The format of this group will be Round-robin unlike the others. Other groups will not be affected by this format and the playoffs will continue in the same way.

The teams in Group D are as follows:

  • Sentinels
  • G2 Esports
  • F4Q

Considered the biggest of the minor leagues, the Vietnam League of Legends VCS league was entitled to send 2 teams to the 2020 Worlds thanks to their high success since 2017. However it’s really unfortunate that Vietnam has been unable to attend any international events starting from Worlds 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Everyone thought that for the 2021 Worlds tournament Vietnam would send 2 teams for the first time. But reliable Vietnamese sources said that no Vietnamese team could attend the event. These are all rumors before the official announcement. However, the cancellation of the VCS summer season and the fact that the pandemic situation in the region has not improved, paints a grim situation. This indicates that this news will most likely be supported by an official statement in a few days.

Riot Games did not fill the spot of VCS bringing teams from other regions but instead changed the format. In the new format, we watched a tournament where two teams went directly to the Group stage during the Play-In process and another two teams came from the Bo5 series. We may see a similar format this year as well.

Worlds 2020 Format Without The Vietnamese Teams

Likewise, in MSI 2021, there were 3 teams in group A due to a lack of a Vietnamese team.

Hopefully we can see VCS in the tournament this year. Instead of playing in a different format, it would be much better to see Vietnamese teams that can challenge big regions.

Fnatic announced that its young top laner Adam “Adam” Maanane has been diagnosed with covid-19. The coronavirus epidemic, has also greatly affected the esports scene as well. Measures were taken, such as the cancellation of major events and the playing of matches from home. Biggest fear behind these measures was that players or employees would contract the disease. Unfortunately, the fear has come true with these news.

Due to this misfortune, the Fnatic vs Team Vitality match, which will start on August 15 at 17:00 (CET), will be played from home, not from the stage. This same incident happened to Fnatic’s support player Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov, who caught the coronavirus during the playoffs. It is really unfortunate that this happened twice for Fnatic, who has been in the esports community for a long time.

Other teams in the LEC, especially those who might face Fnatic in the playoffs, quickly sent their best wishes to Adam on social media.

The young player mentions that he is not showing any symptoms at the moment. He has met and even exceeded the high expectations of Fnatic this season. Adam, who won the EU Masters tournament with Karmine Corp last year, went to Fnatic and took the place of Bwipo, and Bwipo went to the jungle position. The team, which had a successful year with these changes, owes a significant part of this success to Adam.
